Our Services

Chiropractic

Chiropractors practice primarily using their hands, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.

Our Chiropractor uses a combination of treatments, depending on the specific needs of the individual patient. After taking a history, performing an examination and establishing a diagnosis, our Chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, and recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies. One of the most common therapies our Chiropractor uses is spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), which includes a variety of adjustment techniques.

Specific training in SMT allows our Chiropractor to provide highly skilled and precise adjustments to the vertebrae of the spine, correcting joint motion to restore proper movement and improve function.

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is a nerve stimulation technique, in which acupuncture needles are inserted into anatomically defined neurofunctional sites, and are often stimulated with electricity for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system. This technique is performed by Dr. Tyler and is effective in treating pain syndromes and functional problems. Dr. Tyler uses this technique for a wide variety of conditions that include: headaches, neck, low back, upper extremity and lower extremity pain.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASMT)

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is a soft tissue treatment technique that is often used in conjunction with muscle release therapy. It uses specifically designed stainless steel instruments to help our Chiropractor identify and break down scar tissue within the musculoskeletal system.

The goal of IASTM is to separate and break down scar tissue, as well as stretch connective tissue and muscle fibres. Using a cross-friction massage, rubbing against the grain of the scar tissue, our chiropractor re-introduces very small amounts of trauma to the affected area. This temporarily causes inflammation in the local area, which thereby increases the rate and amount of blood flow in and around the area. This process helps initiate and promote the healing process of the affected soft tissues.

Cupping

‘Myofascial Cupping’ or ‘Cupping’ is an ancient Chinese therapy that applies a plastic cup to the skin, then the pressure in the cup is reduced by suction to draw and hold skin and superficial muscle tissue/fascia inside the cup. Sometimes, while the suction is active, the cup is moved, pulling the skin and muscle. This process is called ‘gliding cupping’. Cupping is applied to certain acupuncture points, as well as to parts of the body that have been affected by pain or muscle/fascia tightness where the pain is deeper than the tissues to be pulled. The cupping process draws blood from your vessels and into your tissue. Your body thinks it’s been injured, so the theory is that it ‘jumpstarts’ a positive inflammatory response, mobilizing antibodies to the area to try to heal it.

Registered Massage Therapy

Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints to optimize health.

Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and wellbeing by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.

Before treatment, your Registered Massage Therapist will propose a personalized treatment plan based on an initial assessment and health history. The evaluation consists of various tests to determine the condition of your muscles and joints.

Compression Socks

By compressing the limb with graduated compression socks or stockings (strongest at the ankle and decreasing up the leg), they can aid in venous return, decreases venous pressure, prevents venous stasis, reduces edema and deterioration of venous walls. Compression socks work to efficiently relieve aching and heavy legs by aiding the body in moving blood up the leg.

Compression socks are often prescribed by our Chiropractor to treat Lymphedema, Thrombosis, tired, achy legs, varicose veins, spider veins and recommended as aftercare following surgery and any other form of varicose vein treatment.

Orthotics

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Custom orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes – they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motion that takes place during the gait cycle. Custom orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole and have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet.

The symptoms of poor foot mechanics can include any one of the following symptoms:

Localized foot pain, bunions, hammertoes, arch/heel pain, leg/knee pain, hip or back pain or even neck pain.
